I did not mean to send that….
Rob Lucas, newest member of our Corporate and Technology Team, looks at why an e-mail policy could spare your blushes
E-mail has quickly been established as a popular means of modern communication for businesses and individuals. It is almost instant, affordable, easy-to-use and widely available. However, with the quick and easy transfer of messages and information there is a flaw. An e-mail, once sent, is difficult to retrieve, if at all. When added to human error, such as the “fat finger syndrome”, or a simple lack of tact it can lead to potentially disastrous consequences.
Once an e-mail has been sent, the sender has little control over what happens next. Private or internal intended e-mails have been circulated and with the speed of communication links and the ability to forward a message to an entire address book, it only takes minutes for an e-mail to span the world.
